Hello peeps who are in the music section, just wanna give some tips on how to write a good song tat i picked up at youtube, its how to write a GREAT worship song. Firstly, u gotta work with someone, u cant do it alone. If we work in a group we can point out the mistakes and work on it, or work on what we have produced and make it even better. Secondly, don't give up if u write a bad song, just keep on practicing, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! Lastly, the songs tat u are going to write have to be one that REALLY proclaims God' name, cause what u really want is to worship God, ain't it? U are going to be the role-model for those people tat is going to listen to us and they are going to sing what we write, u wouldn't want the people to be singing a meaningless song right?
Good Luck! ;D

ups for timmy. that was definitely something really insightful.
I guess just add a little more sharing...i really think that when you write a worship song be it straight up worship or praise-ish worship i would say a few steps which i loosely follow...
1. quieten yourself down 2. say a lil prayer 3. try and think about a specific incident which God has really touched you or helped you etc(personal testimonies) or any other incident 4. write them down in accordance to what has happened 5. or write down what you think can really help others 6. or since Ben, and some of us are more towards revolutionizing the youth culture, write about bible inspired lyrics 7. let the spirit and how you feel take control and dont use your head
but do note that sometimes when you write a song, it doesnt have to happen already. Like POD writing christian songs, there are the scripturals ones, inspired by the bible, lyrics about heeding the warning and standing up for Christ.
any qns just holla at me man...willing as ever to aid you on this Christcapade.

hmm interesting... are we talking about worship songs in particular or general christian music? i feel that even though they are closely related. there is a difference at the heart of them

man my views are that if u are writing a song whatever it may be, it should come from ur heart if i does not, then the song would have absolutely no meaning! the song should not be something u were thinking of for 2 or 3 days. it should be on the spot kind of thing. it might not be perfect but its something and its meaningful. uhh thats all haha

er...i think songs should be thought through over a period of time. yes while its still fresh it is as raw as it gets. but i believe there will be the need to sharpen and polish it.
especially for a worship song. you want the song the lyrics the music to say something, something big something meaningful, something which expresses you true feelings, unless u are mozart or beethoven, even they polish their work, i believe at one attempt there is not much one can put into his or her craft to express everything. Thats one reason why bands take a while to craft out a song.
on a personal level, i wrote and rewrote my lyrics to get the best way to allow someone to experience my true feelings at the very moment the listen to it. of course there are songs which need more to comprehend. but i still believe we should and take time in refining our song, lyrics, music etc...
remember music is a medium to speak words, paint pictures, educate people, ultimately allowing one to be connected to God, i think we need to strive to achieve the best out of all of it to give them something not discounted but at full price.

eh firstly, general Christian music does not necessarily have to make a direct reference to God or Jesus. Basically in my limited knowledge, they just need to reflect Christian values wholesomely and purely. They are good in the sense, they do not appear to reach out to people aggressively and thus not step on their feet..
whereas, worship music, again to my limited knowledge is like a little prayer that we wanna say to God. whether is it praise or worship songs, its an expression of our love to God(like whispering sweet nothings to God) except we sing it out. and when we sing we wanna sing out loud. Therefore, it has to be directly directed to God himself, addressing "Him" as "You", eg. "You laid aside your majesty..."
In the essence, Christian music will help people to understand the characteristics, nature etc of God. Help people hear about messages about any Christian matters(about end times and etc)... worship music helps people to express themselves to God, a song of gratitude, of thanks, of love..etc...
yupp, hope this helps abit, again. my limited knowledge, so the forum. its all about building and sharing! so lets share yo!!

yea word props to everybody. i feel that worship songs are used for people who are already converted, christian or born again. songs with lyrics that have a generally positive or christian message can be used for outreach. that's where we can infiltrate the secular world.
