ho ho... here's a confession.
i haven't been for Confession (officially) for 2 years. the last time i went in was not long before army.
in the Gospel, Jesus gives his Apostles the power to forgive and retain sins. but ultimately, they are forgiving in the name of the Lord.
so if i just ask Jesus to forgive me, is that enough? When was the last time you went for cofession?

hmmm, i'm not sure. but see rite, i always ask God for forgiveness during my QT, why not do it directly to him during QT rather than go to a priest?

ok apparently...i cant remember where in the bible but it did say...its always good to tell ur sins to someone and ask that person to help u pray for forgiveness as well...maybe thats where the catholic church view of it...
but obivously...maybe the reason why the church place the priest to do it is because...like church is the body of Christ on earth and u know they want an authoritive figure a physical one to be the keeper of the body of Christ on earth? i dont know just my 2 cents...haha.
but i dont have a problem telling someone else my sins...asking for forgiveness has definitely gots to be to God at the very end of the day. so i dont think there's a problem in that.

Well, I've also been questioning about why is there a need for going for a confession and whether there's a need for a priest for quite a while. I've read up a little and still am reading up on it. Well, maybe to answer your doubts, you can check out www.oca.org/QA.asp?ID=154&SID=3 hmm also, i guess it has something to do with Absolution, and Absolution can only be done by an ordained person for neutral reasons if I am not wrong. =) Happy reading and hopefully this will answer our burning questions and kill our curiosity. =P

this american site points are more towards getting 'Spiritual' advice from a priest when confessing.
i'll read it again, perhaps i misunderstood it.

haha. i think its like that confessory part of the mass. "I confess to you O God, and to you my brothers and sisters..." i think its something very symbolic. ALSO. my 2 cents worth that during our sinning, we might have sinned against others, yeah? Like, for example (hope you don't mind me saying) smoking. When you smoke, in a way, you are sinning by causing harm to other people. sometimes avoiding the smoke is not possible, harming them when they breathe in the smoke you have passed out.
so yeah, through our personal sins, we might also have unconsciously been sinning against other people and i think confession is a way of asking forgiveness and confessing. it is not possible to humanly go to everyone you've sinned against and beg forgiveness, especially if you've done it unconsciously so yeah thats my 2 cents worth.

hmm maybe this analogy might help, heard from some seminar...
if you love someone and have feelings for that person you would express it through actions, like buying flowers for that special someone and verbally saying i love you, as opposed to keeping all your feelings inside and not act your love out to that person, he or she will not know that you love her or him. for that realness in love it must be outwardly expressed...
so i think the same goes for here. i think it's alright that you go straight to God for forgiveness and i believe he will forgive you if you're sincere. confession is like outwardly expressing your guilt and you wanting God to wash it away. talking to a priest and confessing requires more sacrifice cos you're not confined to your personal means of doing things and you're out in the open. so you're really standing up for God and saying no to sin. therefore i think it's healthy to go on a regular basis though i myself am guilty of not doing that.
oh and i was just thinking, it's also like journaling. you can say and think about all you want in your head, but when you write it down in a journal your thoughts and feelings are better expressed and you feel a burden lifting off your shoulders. so i guess metaphorically speaking it's like when you verbally express your feelings of guilt it comes out better and you feel more peaceful after that. in other words it helps you let go of it better.
