Found this christian resource site that has a video regarding addictive behaviour and such. I thought it was really informative and applicable to our lives. Check it out! It also has resources on other topics and issues. Pretty interesting i'd say. Here's the link to the video: www.beyondtoday.tv/programs/archive/?ProgramID=bt043

erm ok...timmy i think let's fight our demons here since its a more related topic then the smoking one.
Here's a passage i came about while reading the bible. Recently I have been very clouded with doubts about things around me due to changes in life. Resulting in me finding that southern comfort from my rusty cages and chains.
I guess today while qting this passage stood out a whole lot cause somehow my sonic edge bookmark was placed there for reason unapparent.
But the passage is James 4:1-12. I know its lengthy but the line that smacked me was verse 7 & 8 (NIV version) "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. v.8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double minded.
When we resist the devil and his temptations, it means we are with God, we choose to be with Him. So my brothers I really think we should take the stand here and be strong and try to wash our hands.
P.S. If you try, you will get somewhere, if you fall, pick yourself up and ask for more strength to run the distance, one day, you will beat it and conquer it.

being 'addicted' to something is like serving another master other than God.
promise after broken promise, God still forgives us. but here's the thing, i'm sure we all have asked for strength, discipline, more faith and love for God...
Is God not answering us? is God not giving us what we need to resist the devil? or do we have it all already, the first time we asked God?
next (set of) question(s). Is it our mind set then? or some form of Spiritual warfare?
guys, help me out here. this is about as far as i've rationalised it before i'm back at square 1.

i think it is a spiritual warfare in our minds as much...u know when we were baptised we are given the holy spirit...so i really think it is in us to beat our demons...hence we already have the strength to beat it...but we somehow need to ask God time and again to unlock more and more that power we have...because it is too difficult for us to unlock it on our own. like a self discovery thang sometimes u need others around u to help u notice thangs about urself that u fail to notice.
Erm when i ask for strength basically i ask for strength to see past my guilt and self pitiful side. because how the devil work is that it flashes bad memories and deter us from trying and trying because we are scared. but i ask for God to help me stand again...with self belief and use the innate strength to go from strength to strength.
so i believe it is a mental war also...for us to see past ourselves after we've asked for forgiveness and dont take it for granted and fight from strength to strength after we stand up.

yea i mean addictions are difficult man. was just talking to an old friend who lives in the same estate as me and i was sharing about smoking cos he recently started, but he's a social. i told him i couldnt do that, it was either i do it or i dont lol. and he said oh that means you got an addictive personality. to me that kinda struck me cos he was right, it's easy for me to get addicted to something cos it provides an escape from all the insecurity and my past, so like ed said people tell you things you fail to know about yourself is true.
furthermore, i thought about the addictive personality, i looked at it a different way and i told myself i wanted an addictive personality, addictive in the sense that people get addicted to my personality lol, and of course i would have to better myself. so it kinda encourages me to kep pushing and keep fighting, cos i'm always reminded of my past as well. we just gotta keep on trying and God makes it easier to survive each day.
